Spectrum Noir Bleach Tutorial

Good morning!  Have you ever wondered how people stamp an image on darker colored cardstock and then color it while still retaining the beauty of the colors?  Today on the Spectrum Noir Blog I am showing you how to bleach your  cardstock before coloring with your Spectrum Noir Markers!  I started with Jumbo Tiger Lily stamp by Stampendous inked with Versamark ink and then heat embossed with Detail Black Embossing Powder

Tip #1: Its easier to have an embossed image so that when you paint the bleach on it won't run outside the lines.

Tip #2: Some cardstock will work better than others.  I used a Bazzill color for my card today.  I first tried Core'dinations but the bleach didn't affect the color at all, probably because of the coating.

Next I used a medium paint brush to add bleach inside the lines.

Tip #3: Some colors will bleach better than others.  Experiment!  Greens usually have a light yellow or blue undertone.

Tip #4: Always use fresh bleach! If its been under your counter forever it probably won't take much color out of the cardstock.

Now you have a nice pale shade inside the flower that will allow you to add layers of Spectrum Noir colors! I started with a base of CT2 on the entire flower.  Next  I added OR1, OR3, CR8, and DR6 in that order.  With each new addition I colored slightly more into the center or edges and then used the chisel tip of the next lighter color to blend the edges.  When I was done I went over the entire flower with OR1.  The stem was colored with JG2, LG5, DG3, and DG2.   Here's what the final card looks like:

Tip #5: I masked the flower with a thin sheet of typing paper cut just inside the lines and then stamped over the entire green layer with Calligraphy Sampler by Stampendous! in green ink.

I hope you enjoyed today's idea!  I challenge you to have fun trying bleach on different colors of cardstock and then add some color!

Challenge List:
Stampendous: Citrus colors (DT)

  2. Gorgeous result! Have you tried a bleach pen? It goes on "chunky" because it's a gel. You can rub the excess off but it gives it great texture. I went over it with watercolor pencils but markers would be great to try too. http://jensunchartedterritory.blogspot.com/2011/12/clorox-christmas-card.html
