Gelli Printing with Tim Holtz Distress Paints

Good morning!  I'm up today on Paper Craft Planet with a tutorial for you using my Gelli plate and the new Tim Holtz Distress paint colors.  Here's the finished journal page that I did in my Dylusions Mini Journal:

First you need to gather your supplies.  I used my Gelli plate, Tim Holtz Distress Paint, Tim Holtz's new layering stencils,  and a brayer.

Even though the Distress Paints have a dauber on top its easier for this technique to open the lid and pour out a few drops.  Be careful, the distress paint is more fluid than most paints you would usually use for Gelli-printing so it pours out quickly!

Next brayer the paint into a thin coat, slightly mixing the colors but not too much.  You still want to see the variegation.  After I brayered it out I used a spatula (that I cut grooves into) to create some texture.

Place your journal or other paper onto the Gelli plate and rub.

Next I cleaned the rest of the greens off and brayered some reds. I added a stencil on top then pressed my page over the gelli again.

Next I added darker greens and a new stencil and transfered that to my page:

Then it looked like this:

I added some background stamping an inked y edges with the dark green paint:

Finally I added some Dylusions images that I stamped on watercolor paper and colored with a waterbrush and distress paint:

Stenciling on Canvas with Silks and Primary elements Tutorial

Good morning peeps! Today I am sharing a little canvas with you that started as a "mop up" and then it kept calling me to finish it!
                      

 

I began with a small 6x8 canvas which I prepped with Matte Gel medium, Tim Holtz tissue paper, and then more medium.  The background is a color wash of Silks acrylic glazes in African Jade, Moonbeams, and Stargazer) from Splash of Color.  The silks are a luscious semi-transparent shimmery paint that dries almost immediately. 

    

 Next I prepped two piles of Champagne Modeling Creme by adding Primary Elements pigment powders to each (one with Teal Zircon, the other with Ocean Waves).

 

I masked the words off of the top of my Urban Landscape stencil from TCW with painter's tape and then spread the creme mixture through the skyline.

 

This is what it looked like at this point: 

 

  I used the other color of embossing creme that I created to stencil the Subway stencil onto the background.  I heated both parts for a few seconds with my heat gun since I'm so impatient.

    

 On a scrap of pattern paper I stenciled one of the cameras from the Picture Perfect stencil with a black Pearl pen from Viva.  I made a small puddle on my craft mat and then laid it over the stencil with a makeup sponge.   

 

My skyline looked a bit lost so I traced the edges with a black pen.

 

OK. so this adorable little "Today" diecut?  I know I cut it at a workshop with Jaime but I can't find it on the TCW website so maybe I'm sneaking you a peek of something top secret!  (The watercolor paper was sprayed with Radiant Rain before being die cut)

 

Finally I added a few words to my canvas.  I unmasked the words from Urban Landscape and stenciled them with the same black Pearl Pen then cut them apart and glued them on.

 

I used the cute little Prima doll stamp by Julie Nutting for my focal image.  She was stamped once on text paper and then again on a sheet of Art Journal pp from Prima.  The dress and headband were cut out and then I ran a thin layer of Moonbeams silks over both of these pieces to add a touch of shimmer.

I placed her on a partial #10 tag from Ranger...this was first painted with Twinkling H2Os in Lucky Apple and Sea Spray and then I stamped the globe from Tim Holtz's Travel Blueprints stamp set in archival black ink.

Stampendous Templates with Gelatos Tutorial

Its the end of March and I am finally getting around to finishing a project that I started weeks ago for this month's Stampendous challenge: Templates.  Did you know that all the new Jumbo stamps come with FREE stencil/masks?  Way cool.

First gather your supplies:

Stampendous Jumbo Poppy Stamp (and masks)

Stampendous Music Score background stamp

Versafine Ink

Faber Castell Gelatos

Paint brush and water

I started by placing the reverse mask on white paper and coloring inside that with my Gelatos from Faber Castell.

After I scribbled on some color I added some water to blend it out a bit.

While that was stil wet I added more Gelatos and rubbed that in with my finger.

After that was dry I stamped the Jumbo Poppy stamp in Black Versafine ink, added Clear Detail EP and embossed it with my heat gun.  Don't the Gelatos make the most beautiful vibrant colors?

I added a bit of turquoise gelatos around the edge of the poppy.  Next I used the inside mask and stamped over the top with the Music Score stamp in Versafine ink.

I know its too late to play in our challenge this month but I wanted to share anyway!  Don't fret though, our new challenge wil be up in just a couple of days!

Dreamweaver Stencils meets Tim Holtz

I'm up again this week with another Dreamweaver Stencils Tutorial on the Paper Craft Planet blog!    Its also still our Spring Challenge at DWS so this week DWS meets some Tim Holtz Distress on an Easter tag!  Here's the tag that I created for you:

Art Journaling with Dreamweaver Stencils

Its my turn over at Paper Craft Planet for our weekly Dreamweaver Stencils tutorial and today I am using my stencils in my Art Journal.  This is the page that I created:

I began by spreading Seedless Preserves Distress Paint onto my pages.  I then added Peeled Paint Distress Paint to the bottom of the page and Adirondack Aqua acrylic paint to the top.  I spritzed the pages heavily with water and let the paint drip and blend a bit and then wiped up some excess with a paper towel.

Next I masked off the top part f the pages and then sprayed white ink through the DWS Mosaic Swirls stencil, repeating this across the middle of the page.

This is what the page looked like at this point:

Next I used the Paisley background stencil and sprayed Green Tea Memories Mist in the same manner.

                                       

I sponged Black acrylic paint through the Butterfly stencil, carrying the paint slightly on the outside of the stencil and connecting the paint to some of the edges to "ground" the butterflies.

I thought it would be fun to add some texture using the grass portions of the Mushroom stencil.  Using a Spectrum Noir marker I drew directly through the grass areas and then connected them after removing the stencil.

Next I thought I would add some embossing paste for texture, and I actually didn't even tape the stencil down.  I applied it in different parts of the stencil randomly around the edges scraping it on like one would use gesso.  The stencil used for the border is Large Flourish.

I finished the page off by painting a half #10 tag with the Seedless Preserves and spraying the same colors and stencils that I used on the background then added a sentiment from a new Tim Holtz set.

Tips and Tricks Thursday

Good morning!  Today is my turn for Tips and Tricks at the Skipping Stones Design blog and I want to share with you some fun ways to use my favorite Dylusions  ink sprays and a few other  techniques with your Skipping Stones Design sets.  For my tag today I used SSD sets Grunge 1 , Grunge 2, and Garden Stamp Kisses.

First I started by spraying water and then Dylusions ink sprays onto my tag.  (I used Cut Grass, Vibrant Turquoise, Fresh Lime, and Melted Chocolate)

Next I used a roll of paper towels to soak up the excess water then finished drying the tag with a heat gun.

This is what the tag looked like at this point.

Next I sprayed water onto one of the border stamps from Grunge 1 and then stamped that onto my tag for a ghosted effect.

Let the water set for a few seconds then dry to see the ghosting effect begin to show.

Then I wanted to add some random stamping in the background so I used another border from Grunge 1, inked it with Versafine Ink then rolled it onto the tag so I would only get partial images from the stamp.

This is what it looked like at this point.  (I also used the same technique to add the speckle border from Grunge 2 using Mowed Lawn Distress ink.

I then added a main sentiment from Grunge 2 and the crow from Garden Stamp Kisses in Versafine ink.  It was still a bit bare so I added some of the little Fleur de Lis stamp all over and doodled a bit around the edges.

My final step was to re-stamp the crow in Peacock Feathers Distress ink, cut him out and ink the edges in Brushed Corduroy and pop him up over the black shadow of the crow.
